BINGHAMTON
The
European Cinema Research Forum conference is a yearly international event
that brings filmmakers, scholars and spectators together to view, discuss
and celebrate contemporary film. This year's conference will take place at
Binghamton
University
and will study the likenesses and divergences
of "Art House" vs mainstream cinema. Free
screenings will be held on July 9-11; register for the
roundtable
discussions to be held by filmmakers and professors from the
U.S.

Europe

The L.A. Center for
Digital Art announces an international call to artists. All styles of
artwork and photography where digital processes of any kind were integral
to their creation are acceptable: digital art stills of any kind, digital
photogaphy, short experimental time based video, video loops, mobile
media, interactive media, and internet art. Selected winners will be
exhibited as the central focus of the "DigitalArt.LA" expo (http://DigitalArt.LA)
in a large group exhibit at the LACDA gallery, August 13 - September 5,
2009. Video winners will also be screened at the Downtown Film Festival
Los Angeles. The show will be widely promoted and will include a reception

Photo-Poetics: Workshops
Broome County Poet Laureate Andrei Guruianu and artist John Brunelli
will host a series of six free poetry and photography workshops in July
and August that will culminate in a collaborative art exhibit titled
"The Southern Tier: A Photo-Poetic History".
The first three on July 9, 16 and 23 will focus on basic photography
techniques; the last three, on Aug. 6, 13 and 20, will focus on poetry,
and writing poems inspired by the photographs participants take.

Into
the Sunset: Photography's Image of the American West illustrates
photography's role in popularizing ideas of the sublime landscape,
Manifest Destiny, and the "land of opportunity"—as well as
describing cultural dislocation, environmental devastation, and failed
social aspirations. Into the Sunset brings together over 120
works by some seventy photographers, including Dorothea Lange, Cindy
Sherman, and Edward Weston.
