The art of Jules Gotay

Language & Perception:

Making the Connection

CARNIVAL

Artist’s statement:

My paintings live on the border between language and the physical world.  They exist in the place where ideas become solid.  I begin with only a title and try to explain it visually.  The result is a metaphorical landscape where the inhabitants are engaged in poetic abstractions.  An inventive title can take me to unexpected places.  My aim is to create surprising images that explore the relationship between language and perception.
